Categories are the highest level of content segmentation on PUBLC, they organize the content and topics into main sections as: News, Music, Sports, etc..
Where do categories come in use:
- A better categorization structure: In order to organize something properly you need a good structure. By having a higher hierarchy structure above topics, it enables better organization of content and topics.
- A more personalized user experience: One of the first things users do when signing up to PUBLC is to choose and follow the categories that they are interested in. By following categories, PUBLC is then able to recommend topics related to those categories.
- A way to discover topics: It's really hard to search for something you don't know exists. That's where categories come in handy. By going to a category page, e.g. Music, you are able to see what's happening in the Music world, discover new musicians and browse through trending content.
Tip: When tagging categories make sure to choose only categories that are truly relevant to your content. Some people try to tag as many categories as possible, including ones that are very vaguely relevant. Doing this will cause the opposite from the desired effect: your categorization could get rejected due to this, or the people seeing your content would find it irrelevant, which would lower your content rank.
