Subtopics create a structure to organize topic pages. As topic pages can have millions of content items in them, subtopics organize all that content into groups of related content within the same topic page. Subtopics create a better user experience for users browsing through a topic page as it enables them to see the different groups of content, helps them find what they are looking for and even discover new things they didn't think to search.
How to create new subtopics?
Similar to how topics are created, topics are also created through categorizing content. When tagging your content to a subtopics, if the subtopic you want to tag doesn't exist then you will see a button "Create new subtopic". By clicking this button a new subtopic will be created within that topic page and your content will be added there. PUBLC will automatically add more content items related to that subtopic either already existing on the platform or new items PUBLC crawls from the web. By having more contributors tagging content to a topic page and creating more new subtopics it creates a better experience for people visiting that page.
What determines the order of subtopics in a topic page?
Subtopics are ordered by their rank within a specific topic page. Each subtopic has its own rank which is derived from the rank of the content items within it (which the content's rank is derived from its relevance, popularity and age). The aggregated subtopic rank makes sure the most relevant subtopics are on the top of the topic page. For example, if a certain subtopic has a lot of new content from the last hours in it that means that this subtopic is now trending as many creators are writing about it, so it should be on the top.
